Mariah, the student I told you some of you about earlier, fell off a narrow path into a 24-foot crevice. Apparently she is the seventh to fall in this location, and the first to be brought out alive. She has two crushed vertebrae in her neck, along with broken pelvis, hip, fingers, and one arm among other injuries. They are keeping her sedated. However, apparently the hospital does not do sedation intravaneously, so she is administered shots throughout the day. It could be 3 weeks before she is able to be flown home for care. Check out the mariettatimes.com tomorrow for an article.

If I haven’t already told you, Mariah will be a senior at Frontier this fall. She is the daughter of Rick & Michelle Smith of New Matamoras and fell from a cliff while touring Scotland with the People to People Ambassador program.
To help the family, my sister is organizing a Pampered Chef Benefit. It’s a fun and easy way to help a family in need.

Go to http:. In the bottom left hand corner, click “order products.” You’ll get a popup menu asking to search for a host. Type “Mariah Steele” in the first box and it should direct you to the Mariah Steele Benefit Fund. You then can browse the web site and make selections as you normally would.
Drop a note to Kimberly Loughry (kloughry@yahoo.com) so that she can send you the link to her website.

Once you’re finished shopping, click “proceed to finalize order.” This is a 3-step process. First you enter your own information - please select  “direct shipping” option and your product will be delivered to your home. The second step is payment and the third is verification.

If the sales total less than $600, Pampered Chef will donate 10 percent directly to the Mariah Steele Fund at People Savings Bank. If it exceeds that amount, they will donate 15 percent. In addition, Kim will match the company donation out of her commission — so up to 30 percent of what you purchase will directly benefit the Steele family.

Please check this out - even if you’re not able to purchase at this time, please forward it to all your family and friends so this can be as beneficial as possible to Mariah and her family. And hurry - in order to get the money to the family as quickly as possible, this “online party” closes July 22. Thank you for your help!

Also, the family’s minister, Pastor Michael Webber, has created a web site with news updates and a link to make secure online donations. The URL is  http://www.helpmoriah.com/

I will keep you posted of other events and updates as I become aware of them!

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions for fundraisers, please contact Alice Hurte or Beth Riggs by calling 740-865-3473 x 1000 or 1103. Thank you!
